Designed for DIN-rail mounting as a CM module in a SIMATIC S7-1500 rack, it enables serial communication to peripherals using Freeport, 3964(R), USS, and Modbus RTU Master/Slave protocols at 115200 bit/s through a 9-pin D-sub connector. In central operation with a CPU from the 151x family, it supports serial links in a typical S7-1500 configuration; in distributed operation, it requires CPU 151x and IM 155-5 to facilitate the serial data exchange.
