Siemens CP521 6ES5 521-8MA11 Printer Interface is a dedicated communications processor module for the SIMATIC S5 that mounts in the S5-100U rack (not compatible with CPU 100, 6ES5 100-8MA01). It acts as the printer interface between the PLC and external printers, offering two operating modes: Print mode, which prints texts to document process states or faults, and ASCII mode, which exchanges data with printers, terminals, or other CP521 units. The module provides a bidirectional serial interface via V.24 RS-232-C / TTY (with a passive TTY current-loop option in some configurations), and features galvanic isolation for the TTY signals. It includes a memory submodule (EPROM/EEPROM) to store configuration parameters, and a real-time clock with accuracy of about ±2 seconds per day.
