The Siemens 505-6851A Remote Base Controller is the remote I/O backbone for a SIMATIC 505 system, connecting additional remote bases to a central 505 controller over RS-485. It can operate in a stand-alone DC power arrangement (PPX 505-6663) or in a redundant 110/220 VAC configuration (PPX 505-6660-A), with the 110/220 VAC supply variant not usable in redundancy. Up to 15 additional remote I/O bases can be linked via RS-485, and the RBC communicates across a single I/O channel in real time, updating all local and remote I/O points in step with the controller scan.
