Description:

The SICK WS/WE24-2R230 is a through-beam photoelectric sensor with two relay outputs, engineered for long-range object detection on conveyors, packaging lines, and other industrial automation applications. It supports a wide power range, operating from 24–240 VAC or 12–240 VDC, which makes it compatible with mixed-power installations and legacy equipment. The sensing distance reaches up to 60 meters, depending on installation and optical alignment, and the rectangular housing is manufactured from zinc die-cast for rugged use. A through-beam arrangement requires a separate emitter and receiver aligned across the target path, enabling reliable detection over extended distances in challenging environments. The device features a dual-relay (2R) output configuration, allowing direct control of two circuits or signaling to a PLC without a separate interface module. Connection is via a terminal block with an M16 gland, and the unit provides straightforward field wiring with a potentiometer for adjustment and selectable light/dark switching to accommodate different sensing applications. In environments where washdown or exposure to moisture is a concern, SICK offers variants with IP-rated enclosures, including IP69, ensuring robust protection in demanding industrial settings. Common uses include pallet detection, presence/absence checks on production lines, and signaling on long conveyor runs, where the combination of long-range sensing, wide supply voltage, and dual relay outputs helps simplify wiring and improve process reliability.
