Schmersal CSS 8-180-2PD-M-ST Electric Safety Sensor

Schmersal CSS 8-180-2P+D-M-ST is a non-contact, magnetically actuated safety sensor designed for guarding and interlock applications on industrial machinery. Housed in a thermoplastic enclosure with an integrated M12 connector (ST variant), it provides two short-circuit–protected PNP safety outputs plus a diagnostic output (2P+D) and a multifunction connection (M), enabling flexible wiring in safety circuits and straightforward series-wiring of up to 16 devices. It operates at 24 V DC, with an eight-pin interface, and features an 8 mm sensing distance suitable for safe-guard monitoring across doors and guards. The device is rated IP65 for dust and water resistance and is specified for a wide industrial temperature range from -25 to 60°C, making it suitable for harsh environments. In the CSS 180 family, the system is designed with electronic, coded sensing and offers high repeat accuracy of switching points, while allowing misaligned actuation, which can improve reliability in real-world mounting. The CSS 8-180-2P+D-M-ST also supports a maximum sensor-chain length of 200 m and includes early warning behavior near the hysteresis limit, aiding proactive fault detection in automated lines.
