Description:

Schmersal AZ 16-ZVR UNMP Safety Interlock Switch is a modular safety interlock for guarding doors and safety enclosures, designed with a separate actuator and a pair of contacts (1 NO and 1 NC) to enforce safe access control. In operation, the slow-action interlock provides a positive-break NC contact while the NO contact remains ready to close, so opening the guard immediately terminates the hazardous condition and prevents re-entry until the guard is resecureed. The device supports electrical ratings of up to 230 VAC at 4 A (AC-15) and 24 VDC at 4 A (DC-13) for its safety contacts, with a rated impulse-withstand voltage of 6 kV, overvoltage category III, and pollution degree 3; it also offers a thermal test current of 10 A and short-circuit current capability of 1,000 A. The AZ 16 family features a thermoplastic enclosure that is double-insulated, with a compact footprint of 52 mm x 90 mm x 30 mm and a large wiring compartment for easy installation, and provides multiple wiring options including M16 or M20 cable entries or M12 connectors (bottom, left, or right) through ST, STL, or STR configurations. Actuators must be ordered separately, reflecting the system’s modular design and enabling tailored guard- locking solutions. EN ISO 14119 classifies these interlocks as type 2 interlocking devices, underscoring the need for proper safety-system integration and guard-circuit validation in the overall safety architecture.
