SAF Drive Systems CA408-1 Drive Interface Encoder Card
SAF Drive Systems CA408-1 Drive Interface Encoder Card
Description:
SAF Drive Systems CA408-1 Drive Interface Encoder Card is a high‑speed multiprocessor module designed for SAFphire drive architectures, running block programs created on a PC with SAF's SBL editor and executing them within the same backplane rack so inputs are accepted and outputs are updated under the control of the loaded block program. The card comprises a dedicated processor for executing the block logic and a second processor that manages the card’s communications ports, plus a BITBUS port for downloading and uploading programs to a PC and a serial port for maintenance communications with a HAND TERMINAL. This architecture delivers a fourfold reduction in execution time compared with the older CA408 Processor Card, enabling faster closed‑loop response in demanding drive control tasks. Configuration is via SW1, J1, J4, and J3: SW1 selects the BitBus station address, with standard operation allowing node addresses 0–15 and the range extended to 16–31 when the J3 jumper arrangement enables upper addresses; J1 and J4 provide a filter enable/disable option on the BitBus input, and the J3 setting determines whether the upper 15 BitBus addresses are enabled. The CA408‑1 is described in SAF’s catalog as a Drive Interface/Encoder Card and is deployed in SAFphire systems to coordinate drive and encoder interfaces across a rack, supporting reliable, fast data exchange between the controller, encoders, and drives.
