AC556A VGA Extender with Audio Local Unit is the transmitter half of Black Box’s two‑piece VGA Extender Kit with Audio, designed to send computer video and stereo audio up to 500 feet over CAT5/5e/6 to a remote receiver. The local unit duplicates the VGA input and, together with the remote unit, supports two monitors with speakers, enabling multi‑display setups for digital signage, kiosks, and presentations. It supports resolutions up to 1024x768 and uses standard CATx cabling to preserve signal integrity, with an equalization (gain) control on the remote unit to fine‑tune the picture for longer runs. The design incorporates 2‑kV ESD protection on the units, and the kit includes the local and remote modules, four rubber feet, a 6‑ft audio cable, a 6‑ft VGA cable, and two power cords with two power supplies. Ideal applications include digital signage in exhibits, retail environments, trade shows, and airports where VGA plus audio must be transmitted over a single CAT cable run.
