Allen-Bradley 1769-IA16 Digital Input Module
Allen-Bradley 1769-IA16 Digital Input Module
Description:
The Allen-Bradley 1769-IA16 is a CompactLogix 16-point digital input module designed to live in a 1769 Compact I/O chassis and interface with CompactLogix controllers for 120 VAC sensing. It accepts 16 discrete input channels on 100/120 V AC with an operating voltage range of 79–132 V AC at 47–63 Hz, enabling direct connection to standard industrial sensors and switches. Key electrical specs include an on-state voltage minimum of 79 V AC and on-state current ranging from 5 mA (minimum at ~74 V) to 12 mA (maximum at 120 V), plus an off-state voltage up to 20 V AC and off-state current up to 2.5 mA, with a 20 ms input delay for both transitions. The module’s input impedance is up to 12 kΩ at 50 Hz (10 kΩ at 60 Hz), and it supports up to 250 mA peak inrush, drawing roughly 115 mA at 5.1 V for its internal electronics, with a total heat dissipation around 3.3 W. Isolation between the input points and the backplane is rated for 1517 V AC for 1 second (2145 V DC for 1 second), and the device uses IEC Class II reinforced insulation with a working voltage of 132 VAC. Physical specs place the module at approximately 118 mm (H) × 35 mm (W) × 87 mm (D) and about 280 g (0.61 lb) in weight. Typical uses include monitoring presence or status of 120 VAC field devices in automation systems, feeding a CompactLogix processor via the 1769 bus for digital logic, interlocks, and sequencing tasks.
