Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 16-Point Digital Input Module
Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 16-Point Digital Input Module
Description:
Allen-Bradley 1756-IB16 is a 16-point digital input module for the ControlLogix 1756 I/O backplane, designed to sense DC input signals from field devices. This 16-channel module accepts 10–31.2 V DC inputs with a nominal 24 V DC rating, arranged as two 8-point groups that are scanned by the backplane. It delivers fast response with a hardware delay of about 290 µs (nominal) plus an optional input-filter selection of 0, 1, or 2 ms. On-state current ranges from 2 mA to 10 mA depending on voltage (minimum 2 mA at 10 V, maximum 10 mA at 31.2 V); off-state current is up to 1.5 mA, and input impedance is approximately 3 kΩ. Power dissipation can reach 5.1 W at 60 °C, with total backplane power around 0.56 W. This module is part of the Rockwell Automation ControlLogix ecosystem and is used to convert sensor states (e.g., pushbuttons, limit switches, proximity sensors) into 16 discrete digital inputs for the controller. It requires a compatible 1756 backplane chassis and configuration with Rockwell software to assign addresses and monitor input states in real time.
