Signal transmission relies on Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM); a probe-mounted transmitter communicates with the control unit up to about one mile away over two plain wires, with operating power supplied by the controller over the same pair of wires. Each relay has its own time delay and adjustable differential, and the Lead\/Lag feature can automatically alternate pump operation to balance wear. The system uses heavy-duty 10 A relays and provides optical isolation between the PFM transmitter and the controller to improve EMI\/RFI rejection; calibration is stored non-volatilely for repeatability, and Auto-Set pushbutton calibration simplifies setup. The 5400A supports optional enclosures, including NEMA 4, 4X, or Explosion-Proof configurations, and it is UL and c-UL listed for industrial use.
