It is designed for installation in an AutoMax rack in any unused slot (not occupied by a processor or a Common Memory Module) and provides dual-port memory to support communication with multiple processors—up to four others. The 57C417 can connect AutoMax to an R-Net Gateway Interface Head (M\/N 45C27 or 45C28) for access to the R-Net network, or to a Serial Communication Processor (M\/N 45C203) to talk with one or more AutoMate Processors in a rack, or it can be wired directly to an AutoMate Processor. It can also bridge AutoMax to operator interface devices such as ShopMax or PanelMax, or to a host computer. When connected directly to an operator interface device over RS-232, the module acts only as a slave and cannot initiate communication; it will respond to commands from the operator interface. Status indicators include fault-code LEDs and an OK LED to help diagnose communication issues. A drop-number thumbwheel labeled “DROP NUMBER” sets the device’s network or equipment number within the system.
